Established in 1992, the Environmental Research and Service (ERS)
unit is dedicated to providing quality research, assistance and
leadership on environmental policy issues and assisting the private
and public sectors to translate objective research into effective
action. ERS has a four-fold mission:
- Enhance policy development through multidisciplinary
environmental research
- Promote effective pollution prevention through public/private
partnerships
- Promote effective use of scientific information in
environmental policy
- Develop environmental leadership in government, public
organizations and the private sector
In pursuit of its mission, ERS undertakes a variety of activities,
including public policy and environmental research and analysis;
technical assistance to business, industry and government; hosting
environmental forums and workshops; cooperating closely with the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the S.C. Department of
Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), the U.S Department of
Defense (DOD), and other appropriate agencies; and providing
general information and outreach on a variety of topics and
issues.
